The Bible teaches us that our faith is a shield but a shield that is stored away is not an effective weapon. Our shield can only do its job when we keep it with us at all times.
SERMON TEXT: I KINGS 14:25-28
25 And it came to pass in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem:
26 And he took away the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the king's house; he even took away all: and he took away all the shields of gold which Solomon had made.
27 And king Rehoboam made in their stead brasen shields, and committed them unto the hands of the chief of the guard, which kept the door of the king's house.
28 And it was so, when the king went into the house of the Lord, that the guard bare them, and brought them back into the guard chamber.
In life we come upon many thresholds. While a threshold can be a place of safety and comfort, it impedes progress if we linger too long. There are stories waiting to be told on the other side but we must take the first step.
SERMON TEXT: REVELATION 3:7-8
7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;
8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.
So often we focus on the big things but God also cares about the small things in life. He cares about the things and the people who others may overlook.
SERMON TEXT: MARK 4:36
36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
Just as we crave food to meet our physical needs, God craves time with us.
No matter the difficulties we may go through in life, God gives grace. There is great comfort and depth to our relationship with God when we learn to sing songs of praise even in our darkest hours. SPEAKER: Pastor Johnny Grissom
SERMON TEXT: PSALM 37:23-24 | MICAH 7:8
Psalm 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.
Psalm 37:23 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.
Micah 7:8 Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me.
In this series, Pastor Grissom looks at the birth of the New Testament church in Acts 2 and examines both the qualities of the early church that made it so special and how we can incorporate these qualities into our church today.
SERMON TEXT: ACTS 2:40-47
40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.
41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.
46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
