SEVEN CHARACTERISTICS OF A GREAT FATHER

We have an excellent example of fatherhood in our Heavenly Father:

• Luke 15:12 A GREAT FATHER IS ACCESSIBLE. Successful fatherhood is about being present and approachable. You cannot always be present but when you are there, be there.
• Luke 15:12 A GREAT FATHER IS GENEROUS. Be willing to share your time, your counsel, your talents, and your possessions.
• Luke 15:12 A GREAT FATHER IS RESPECTFUL. Respect for an individual’s opinions, actions, or lifestyle does not necessarily infer approval. A father may love and respect his child, rejecting their actions and decisions without rejecting their person.
• Luke 15:20 A GREAT FATHER IS COMPASSIONATE. I know of no greater example of compassion than the Father unconditionally receiving His wayward but repentant son.
• Luke 15:20-24 A GREAT FATHER RESTORES BROKEN RELATIONSHIPS AND BROKEN CHILDREN. The Father did not stop with compassion, He went on to restoration. He embraced, accepted and forgave His repentant son. He restored his regal robes, the familial ring and shoes for his feet.
• Luke 15:24 A GREAT FATHER IS JOYFUL. He knows when and how to celebrate. Such joy creates an atmosphere that children are drawn to and thrive in.
• Luke 15:25-32 A GREAT FATHER IS IMPARTIAL. With patience, equality and impartiality, he loved both the repentant one and the resentful one. Each of us has our good days and bad, our ups and downs. Our children are the same; they deserve a consistently loving and impartial father.
